The discovery, by Linval Thompson, of a set of tapes previously believed to have been lost, has resulted in the release of Phoenix Dub. Containing mid to late seventies self produced dubs, the album features the talents of the Revolutionaries and the Roots Radics. The tracks were mixed at King Tubby's by Scientist, King Tubby or Prince Jammy.
Genuinely unreleased material of this quality hardly ever surfaces, even in the somewhat chaotic world of reggae.
David Katz (biographer of Lee Perry) has written extensive sleeve notes, which feature an interview with Linval. The music itself is classic seventies Dub reggae. Mastered from the original tapes.
